Berryville is the county seat of Carroll County, which is rich in the history and heritage of the Ozarks. Settlers were here as early as the 1820's, and many of their descendants remain today. Of course, the Cherokee and Osage Indians were here long before that.

Carroll County was named in honor of Charles Carroll, a wealthy American Patriot, and one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. He died November 14, 1832, the last of the historic signers. He always signed his name "Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Maryland" to distinguish himself from another Carroll, who also signed the Declaration.
